Roughly 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.
Officers state they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.
The substance had been applied in the shape of a swastika, they reported.
Police then found multiple other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi symbols.
Police report initial examinations suggest the liquid was likely human blood.
"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; investigators are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities said they were attempting "to solve the case" and have asked to the community for tips.
A senior official stated the attack rendered him stunned and required to be resolved quickly.
"This incident affects the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing attack in 2020," he wrote on online, referring to the death of nine victims by a shooter focusing on residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
